"The Power of the Pitch"
How Football Inspired a Movement

The Beginning

In 1999, Gurmangal Dass observed a concerning trend in his village: many young boys were aimless, drifting into drug abuse—a pervasive issue in Punjab at the time. However, when Gurmangal and his friends played football, they noticed something remarkable: the game attracted children and villagers alike, sparking excitement and unity.

Recognizing the potential of football to instill direction and positivity in young lives, Gurmangal envisioned a solution. His goal was simple yet profound: to use football as a tool to engage youth and steer them away from the perils of drug addiction. Thus, in 2001, the Youth Football Club Rurka Kalan was born.

A Founder's Resolve

The impact of YFC Rurka Kalan's football sessions was immediate and profound. Beyond the sport itself, these sessions fostered relationships, instilled mutual respect, and imparted essential life skills. The youngsters' outlook on life shifted dramatically, reflected not only in their behavior but also in their academic performance.

Gurmangal's dedication to his community led him to make a pivotal decision: he sacrificed an opportunity for higher education abroad to devote himself to YFC Rurka Kalan Misson full-time. His commitment to empowering youth through football became his life's mission.

A Force for Good: YFC's Continuing Impact

Standing as a formidable force for good, YFC continues to illuminate the path of hope, annually empowering over 10,000 young and underprivileged children. Through a comprehensive framework integrating sports, education, health, and gender equality initiatives, YFC fosters holistic development.

As Gurmangal frequently underscores, 'Football is capable of achieving remarkable feats.' Through YFC's tireless efforts, this belief is consistently validated, shaping brighter futures for generations to come.
